The Tow and Fert is not just a fertiliser spreader – it can do many jobs making it useful all year round. It can be a replacement for your fert spreader, sprayer and quad-bike duster.
SPRING:
If you have a sulphur deficiency, Sulphate of Ammonia as a foliar application is a great product to get the nitrogen and sulphur on in the same time. When the soil temp is high enough, throw in some Gibberellic acid (if desired) at the same time, saving on a separate application.
Add some fine lime to the mix, and continue a little and often application of lime on every round of your pastures saving on a large capital application once a year.
SUMMER:
Stretch your fertiliser window into the summer slightly longer than you usually would by applying your nitrogen as a foliar application. Just up the water rate, and continue applying N in the evening when the dew is beginning to settle. Include some spray to deal with porina or grass grub, and even some copper – all in one application!
Continue a maintenance level of lime every round!
AUTUMN:
Continue dissolving your nitrogen into the autumn, and by the end of full season of foliar application of N, your Tow and Fert could nearly be paid off – purely from a financial saving on the reduced nitrogen input costs. If Facial Eczema is an issue in your area, then apply zinc oxide in front of the grazing, and mitigate the risk before it happens. Put some chicory or plantain in the Tow and Fert at the same time as your fert application and over-sow at no extra cost!
Continue a maintenance level of lime every round!
WINTER:
After calving, you may be thinking about magnesium, and how to get that into the cows. If they’re not drinking a lot of water, the best form of getting magnesium into them is on the pasture. With the Tow and Fert, you can do an even spread of magnesium oxide suspended in water, so there is no dust and it will stick to the leaf of the plant ‘like concrete’ so you can do a weeks worth of grazing in just one application.
Continue a maintenance level of lime every round!
